HAIL THE FIRST AUSTRALIAN FEATURE FILM IN TEN YEARS SELECTED FOR VENICE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
HAIL is the culmination of Melbourne director Amiel Courtin-Wilson’s intensely personal 6 year collaboration with Daniel P. Jones – an ex prison inmate turned actor. In HAIL the line between cinema and life is at times erased with Daniel and his real life partner Leanne Letch plying themselves in a drama based on their lives; a delicate love story and a uniquely immersive cinematic assault.
It has been a decade since an Australian feature film has played in competition at the Venice International Film Festival and it is young Melbourne director Amiel Courtin- Wilson’s dramatic feature film debut Hail that will break the drought.
The 68th Venice International Film Festival, one of the world’s most prestigious – certainly its oldest – film festivals, is already generating a pre-emptive buzz. Screen legend Al Pacino will receive the Jaeger-Le Coultre Award this year; meanwhile, Hollywood luminary George Clooney’s latest directorial effort, The Ides Of March, is set to open the festival.
In a level of the stratosphere far from the glitz and the glamour travels HAIL, Courtin- Wilson’s intimate depiction of love and loss. Selected for Competition in the Orrizonti section of Venice which celebrates innovative forms of cinema, HAIL is anything but a conventional feature film.
To celebrate HAIL’s selection in the 68th Venice International Film Festival Goodtime Studios is hosting an exhibition of behind the scenes production stills and portraits of the cast to send the team to the festival.
